Jan Prachař has been appointed as the new Managing Director of SÚRAO.
He stressed the need to improve communication.
Effective from Tuesday 19 February 2019, JUDr. Jan Prachař has been appointed as the new Managing Director of SÚRAO. At a coordinating meeting held at the Ministry of Industry and Trade, he stressed the need to improve communication and discussed future steps with Deputy Minister René Neděla.
“SÚRAO faces major challenges in terms of addressing the negative reactions of candidate sites to SÚRAO’s approach, improving communication, preparing special legislation on municipality involvement and presenting the various local development opportunities that will accompany SÚRAO’s approach to the deep repository project in the future” stated Jan Prachař.
SÚRAO, as a state administrative organisation, must, at all times, act in a transparent and consistent manner. It is necessary to change the approach to communication and to raise awareness of the activities for which SÚRAO is responsible. Radioactive waste does not only consist of spent nuclear fuel, but is also generated in the health, industry and research sectors. As with other waste, it is necessary to dispose of nuclear waste responsibly with a view to its entire life cycle.
Jan Prachař already has experience of the activities of SÚRAO, which he managed from 2011 to 2014. During his career he has been closely involved in the preparation of primary and subordinate legislation on various nuclear, commercial, corporate, administrative and financial issues. He graduated from the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen and, subsequently, was awarded a postgraduate degree in international nuclear law from the International School of Nuclear Law at the University of Montpellier. He speaks French and English. He has held the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Czech Nuclear Association since May 2018.
