The Parliamentary Economic Committee passed the first reading of an amendment to the Atomic Act
The proposed maximum contribution from the Nuclear Account to local communities was enhanced to CZK 4 million per year.
The Economic Committee of Parliament’s Chamber of Deputies discussed at its 13 session on 25 May 2011, in the first reading, a Government draft amendment to Act 18/1997, on the peaceful uses of nuclear energy and ionising radiation (the Atomic Act) – parliamentary print No. 271. After hearing an exposition by Jiří Jirka, the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade and a report by Milan Urban, a Deputy and Economic Committee Chairman, followed by a detailed debate, the Economic Committee adopted a resolution recommending the Chamber of Deputies to discuss and subsequently approve the above parliamentary print which contained several amendments to the Atomic Act, the following among others:
Part I/7, Article 27, Paragraph 11:
The maximum contribution limit from the Nuclear Account is CZK 4 000 000 per year. ...”
If this amendment is approved by Parliament, communities in areas in which geological research is carried out or a candidate repository site is located can receive a yearly contribution of up to CZK 4 million.
The second reading of the draft amendment is on the Economic Committee agenda of its session planned for 7 June 2011.
